ANTIQUE 19thC SWISS 18k GOLD & ENAMEL VINAIGRETTE, JEAN-GEORGES RÉMOND c.1800
Antique early 19th Century Swiss vinaigrette in 18k gold, of rectangular form with canted corners. The lid is adorned with a pair of winged cherub heads framed by a seed pearl border. Dark blue and white enamel decoration covers the sides and base. Inside, an elaborate hinged filigree grille reflects exceptional craftsmanship and fine detailing.
Hallmarked with the maker’s mark GR (Jean-Georges Rémond). Following the dissolution of the Geneva firm Guidon, Rémond, Gide & Co. on 1 January 1801, the partners established independent workshops. Pieces from all three are found on some of the finest Geneva gold and enamel snuff boxes of the era.
