20th Century Imperial Russian Faberge 14k gold cigarette case, very elegant square form with rounded corners, with reeded covers, the hinged cover applied with a cabochon sapphire thumbpiece. Hallmarked Russian gold 56, Maker's mark AB for Andrei Bragin.

DESCRIPTION
Antique 20th Century Imperial Russian Faberge 14k solid gold cigarette case, very elegant square form with rounded corners, with reeded covers, the hinged cover applied with a cabochon sapphire thumbpiece. Both sides Hallmarked Russian gold 56 (585 standard), St-Petersburg, year 1908-1917, Maker's mark AB, Andrei Bragin, renowned Faberge workmaster, who exclusively produced holloware and flatware. Valentin Skurlov is credited with recognizing this mistaken identity problem in Lowes & McCanless, 185). This latter cigarette case, decorated with an imperial double-headed eagle, is in an original étui of A. Tillander and was commissioned by the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty as an Imperial gift.
