20th Century Art Deco enamel and stone-set vanity case, of square form, with chased Indo-Persian design throughout depicting various exotic birds and other exotic animals among a scrolling foliage ground, with plychrome enamel detailing on both sides, the cover is set with an oval jadeite thumbpiece, opening to reveal the original mirror and the powder compartment with original fittings.

The case is signed "Cartier", and numbered 2495 and 2527.

Antique 20th Century Art Deco enamel and stone-set vanity case, of square form, with chased Indo-Persian design throughout depicting various exotic birds and other exotic animals among a scrolling foliage ground, with plychrome enamel detailing on both sides, the cover is set with an oval jadeite thumbpiece, opening to reveal the original mirror and the powder compartment with original fittings.

The case is signed "Cartier", and numbered 2495 and 2527.

This type of enamelled brass vanity cases decorated with Indo-Islamic patterns are extremely rare and valuable, typical of the Art Deco pieces made and retailed by Cartier in the 1920-30's, often influenced by a strong exotic taste for Orental, Middle Eastern and Indian art and jewellery. In Good condition - General wear, wear to the enamel and stains to the mirror as always the case for antique pieces.
