19th Century Swiss 18k gold vinaigrette, of oval shape, the lid set with an oval panel depicting a seated cherub painting, semi nude and draped in red silk amongst clouds, surrounded by a fluted boarder and enamelled underneath and sides.

DESCRIPTION

Antique early-19th Century Swiss 18k gold vinaigrette, of oval shape, the lid set with an oval panel depicting a seated cherub painting, semi nude and draped in red silk amongst clouds, surrounded by a fluted boarder and enamelled underneath and sides. Interior fitted with a hinged grill, beautifully engraved resembling feathers.

Hallmarked with maker mark GRC (Jean-Georges Remond). The formal closure of the Geneva firm of Guidon, Rémond, Gide & Co. on 1 January 1801 was followed by a division of the partners who opened their own firms. The marks of all three firms are to be found on the best Geneva gold and enamel snuff boxes of the period.
