DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century William IV Solid Silver mounted Mammoth tooth snuff box, rectangular form, the box is silver mounted and lined (particularly heavy box), richly gold plated, the base, sides and the hinged cover is set with rare fossilized mammoth-tooth panels.

The inside of the cover is engraved with a later memorial inscription "A memento of my old friend Teddy Oakeley, 1919".

All silver parts are Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1833 (s), Maker's mark J.S for John Linnit, very important silversmith and jeweller, one of the outworkers used by the royal goldsmith and silversmith Garrard & Co, please follow this link to a brooch by Linnit in the Royal Collection commissioned by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria.

CONDITION

In Great condition - silver in great condition, the mammoth panels have minor wear.
