Antique early-19th Century German 18k (750 standard) gold snuff box, of rectangular form with rounded corners, the hinged cover decorated on all sides with leaf boarders, on matted ground, the sides engraved with linear decoration and the top set with a vacant cartouche, inside engraved 'Presented by A. J. Byron to his friend J MacGregor Mallock, M.D, Oct 1st 1826' - There was a Captain A.J. Byrom, from the 16th Lancers, present at the siege of Bhurtpore, Rajasthan in 1826. Hallmarked and gold tested (750 standard), Makers mark GT (Probably NEUCHATEL).
