DESCRIPTION

Antique early-19th Century Swiss 18k solid gold snuff box, of rectangular shape with rounded corners, lid inset with an oval hand painted miniature of Louis Henri Joseph de Bourbon (13 April 1756 – 30 August 1830), the Prince of Condé from 1818 to 1830, also the brother-in-law of Philippe Égalité and nephew of Victoire de Rohan. Engraved 'V Garnaud, Rue de Richelieu No 60' - Rue de Richelieu is a long street of Paris, starting in the south of the 1st arrondissement, ending in the 2nd arrondissement. For the first half of the nineteenth century, before Baron Hausmann redefined Paris with grand boulevards, it was one of the most fashionable streets of Paris.

The box is intricately hand engraved with dense leafy scrolls on matted ground, the side and base decorated with engine turning and the hand painted miniature surrounded by a fine acanthus leaf boarder. Hallmarked with the French Standard or Title mark (Bull, used 1819-1838), Guarantee marks, Makers mark SL.
