Mid-19th Century French 18k gold & hand-painted enamel scent bottle, of shield form, the gold mount is highly decorated, body and hinged cover hand-painted depicting an exceptionally well-painted Renaissance inspired scenes. The hinge is tight and the top opens to reveal the original gold stopper.

The hinge is tight and the top opens to reveal the original gold stopper.
Such Renaissance-inspired enamelled items are generally Austrian made, but this particular perfume bottle - of much higher quality compared to similar pieces made in Vienna - was made in France around 1860's, all silver parts are Hallmarked with a high-standard French 18k gold guarantee mark.
