Antique mid-18th Century French two-colour 18k gold snuff box, of oval form, engraved with engine turned decoration, within beaded boarders and garlands on a matted ground. Hallmarked with 18th century French hallmarks, the box dates to the 1770-1790, later french owl guarantee mark (1838-present). later inscription 'Erinnerung an die gefahrliche fahrt Emsdetten - Surenburg, am 21 august 1826 Mama', translated; Reminder of the dangerous ride Emsdetten - Surenburg on 21 august 1826 Mama.
