DESCRIPTION

Antique early-20th Century French solid silver five-piece novelty trompe-i'oeil cruet set, comprising of three graduated jars (the larger with a cover) realistically shaped as wooden barrels and two smaller bowls with handles realistically modelled as buckets. One of the buckets hallmarked with Minerva (950 standard) and maker's mark "G.B" probably for Georges Brisson (rare maker active in Paris 1896-1900), all other pieces with "boar head" - French silver standard for small objects. The set, so unusual that it could be a one-off, is modelled imitating the exceptionally rare 18th century examples by Nicolas Besnier.
