DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century French solid silver figural vase & cover, of quatrefoil form, the foot and lid mounted with cast gilded figures and the surfaces chased with Lilly's of the valley, standing on a gilt metal base. All parts hallmarked French silver (swan guarantee mark, 950 standard), No makers mark, most likely this piece was am exhibition or a commissioned piece.

The quality of the casting and chasing closely resembles the hand of Maison Odiot who is considered the best French silversmith of his generation and is the successor of the famous dynasty of French silversmiths. His father was Jean-Baptiste-Coude Odiot, Napoleon's silversmith and the firm produced exhibition pieces for all the 19th century World Exhibitions and the most important Royal families of the world, such as the Tsars of Russia, Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria, Said Pacha, Viceroy of Egypt.
