DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century large chest of tools belonging to a Victorian coach builder from Derby. As a part of his apprenticeship the coach builder made this chest to house his tools, showing his skills at joinery, marquetry, and design. This chest contains five layers of drawers to house saws. planes. drills, braces, hammers and screwdrivers and just about every other tool used in carpentry. When the original owner died in 1904 this chest of tools was raffled to raise money for the widow. Mr E Edwards had the winning ticket, he was a coach maker for Great Eastern Railway. These tools have been used and cared for, for over a hundred years all are in good working condition still.
