DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century Victorian cast iron crest of the 'Worshipful Order of Grocers', although it was originally known as the order of Paperers, an old English word for spice traders in the early fifteen hundreds. The crest has been worn clean of its brightly coloured paint over time creating a rustic effect. This plaque clearly shows the camel carrying bags of spice as the pack animal was entirely dropped from the crest in the twentieth century telling us this is an early example., making it an incredibly rare piece of history and a very decorative conversation piece.
