DESCRIPTION

Antique 20th Century rare Straits Chinese / Peranakan Solid Silver five-piece sirih / betel nut set, comprising of two lidded boxes, a bowl, a container with removable liner and a pair of shears for cutting nuts, each part featuring a beautiful chased design depicting foliage and flowers.

The set is complete and in excellent condition, it comes with the original lacquered wooden stand.

Each piece is Hallmarked with Chinese chop marks, the silver has been tested 900+ standard, year about 1900. Maker's mark probably for Da Xing, one of the few mainland silversmiths also producing silver in a Singapore-based workshop. This type of sets were used by the Peranakan people living in the Malay peninsula. This set is probably from Singapore (for similar examples please see Ho Wing Meng, "Straits Chinese Silver", pp.136-139).

CONDITION

In Great condition - No damage, just general wear and minor damages to the wooden box.
