DESCRIPTION

Antique late-19th Century Chinese solid silver & enamel vase, the sides are decorated with shaded enamel, depicting blooming chrysanthemums and an exotic bird, cross-key boarders and applied with pierced floral handles. The vase is of good traditional size and features stunning workmenship. Hallmarked with Chinese marks (tested 900+ standard), Bao Cheng (active in Beijing, 1890-1949).

Beijing was historically the home of enamel wares and the majority of enamel on silver artists were based in Beijing. Only a handful of 19th century silversmiths working with enamels stand out from the crowd, Bao Cheng definitely does and its clear why educated Chinese collectors crave works bearing this rare silversmith mark. For more information please see A.
