Description

Antique 20th Century pair of Indian Burmese Colonial Solid Silver cast presentation Regimental bells, each of particularly large size, the body chased with flowers and leaves and cast handles modelled as twisted snakes.

Each body bearing the memorial inscription: "Presented to The Officers Mess 3rd Bn Gloucestershire Reg.t by Cap.t W. E. P. Burges and The Hon. D. G. Carnegie". Please follow this link to a picture with the two officials.

The piece is unmarked, as often the case for Indian Colonial silver, but acid tested shows a 900+ standard. The pair dates between 1892 and 1896 (when Burges became Major), and by the style is typically Burmese.
