DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century Burmese, Myanmar solid silver repousse' bowl, large size and particularly heavy gauge, repousse' decorated in high relief with scenes from the Burmese mythology, representing various figures and mythological winged figures in a landscape, with very detailed ceremonial scenes, The top chased with scrolling bands and base decorated with a thick band of betel leaves.

The workmanship is particularly crisp and detailed. The bowl is engraved with an inscription 'Violet Evelyn Fraser, From her Godfather J.D. Fraser. The center of the base engraved with a makers mark a mythical Burmese beast called Naga, acid tested shows a high 900+ standard silver purity, judging by the quality and style the bowl dates to the 1880's.
