Antique early 20th Century Edwardian solid silver and cut glass novelty claret jug, uniquely designed in the form of an ornate griffin. The jug showcases finely textured plumage, both in silver and on the cut glass, with a realistically modeled head and a piercing gaze, The jug features a glass handle and rests on a round, circular base.
A crest engraved on both sides bears the Latin phrase "Constanter et prudentia," meaning "With constancy and prudence," The Campbell Family Crest (Fairbairn's Book of Crests, 1905 ed). Clan Campbell is a Highland Scottish clan, historically one of the largest and most powerful of the Highland clans. The Clan Campbell lands are in Argyll and within their lands lies Ben Cruachan. The chief of the clan became Earl of Argyll and later Duke of Argyll.
