DESCRIPTION
Antique early-20th Century exceptional and stunning Victorian William Comyns Solid Silver "Handsome Timepiece" Mantel Clock, in the French Louis XV style, supported by four impressive cast scrolling flower decorated feet, the body profusely chased and applied with scrolling foliate decoration and Watteau-esque scenes depicting loving couples, the dial is beautifully hand painted with floral wags, black roman numerals and arabic minutes. The lid on the reverse also embossed with a loving scene. The clock comes without the key.
Hallmarked English silver (925 Standard), London, 1901 (f), Maker's mark W.C (William Comyns, one of the greatest and most sought-after silversmiths of the 19th Century).
