18th Century Georgian silver ornamental cup and cover, very heavy gauge, richly gilt, urn form, on spiral fluted pedestal base, body with classical masks linked by drapery and centered by rosettes, a scrolling acanthus frieze, matching capped cast handles. The matching cover in the same style is surmounted by an acorn finial. Hallmarked English silver (925), London, year 1771 (Q), Maker's mark LCGC for Louisa Courtauld & George Cowles.

Antique 18th Century extremely rare, impressive and magnificent Georgian Solid Silver ornamental cup and cover, very heavy gauge, richly gilt, urn form, on spiral fluted pedestal base, body with classical masks linked by drapery and centered by rosettes, a scrolling acanthus frieze, matching capped cast handles. The matching cover in the same style is surmounted by an acorn finial. Such large vases were the most fashionable interior design accessory of the late 18th Century; the silver cup and cover in form of vase was at the top end of the market for such products, and these are the top silversmiths for silver cups. Each part is fully Hallmarked English silver (925 Standard), London, year 1771 (Q), Maker's mark LCGC (Louisa Courtauld & George Cowles). Louisa Perina Courtauld was a member by marriage of one of the most famous families of 18th Century goldsmiths, particularly known for large decorative cups (see a very similar cup made with George Cowles, now in the Victoria & Albert Museum of London).
