Antique 19th Century Victorian exceptional set of 3 solid silver gilt wine coolers in the style of the early four handled communal drinking vessels. Medieval designs were very popular at the beginning of the arts and crafts movement and were often incorporated into various objects.

DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century Victorian exceptional set of 3 solid silver gilt wine coolers in the style of the early four handled communal drinking vessels. Medieval designs were very popular at the beginning of the arts and crafts movement and were often incourparated into various objects.

Each exceptionally heavy, the cast double loop B shaped handles covered with twist rope and rivet decoration. The body is also decorated with rivets, rainbow loops, sun burst and fleur-de-lis.

Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1880 (E), Maker's mark RG (Robert Garrard II), and stamped on base Garrards, Panton Street, London. Robert Garrard II became the crown jeweler to her Majesty Queen Victoria and family in 1843. In this capacity, Garrard produced some of the finest 19th century silver ever made.
