RECENT ACQUISITIONS - 24th November
A 20th Century vase made by Edwin Martin in Southall, London. Edwin Martin was a prominent figure associated with the Martin Brothers pottery, known for his significant contribution to the studio's success in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As one of the founding members, he helped shape the distinct style and reputation of the Martin Brothers' works, which often included unique, sculptural pieces.
The pottery became renowned for its whimsical, artistic approach to ceramics, blending fine craftsmanship with distinctive designs, such as geometric shapes and textured glazes. Martin’s work with the studio contributed to its legacy within the British Arts and Crafts movement, creating pieces highly valued by collectors.
RECENT ACQUISITIONS - 23rd November
A 20th Century American solid silver novelty cigar compendium. Made in the shape of a horses carriage, this compendium features an area in the saloon to place cigarettes or small cigars. The front and rear has an area for matchsticks. The wheels rotate and pivot, perfect for a conversation piece for an after dinner party smoking session or as a decorative item. Hallmarked "STERLING" (925 standard), Makers mark Gorham. inventory number 41101.
