19th Century Japanese Meiji period Shibayama Koro (Incense Burner). The silver body is applied of very fine enamel work, sides applied with two mythical, stylized dragon handles, adorned with a finely carved panels of various colours of mother of pearl, subject depicting fighting and courting cockerels. The shaped foot and top decorated with delicate shaded enamel within fine filigree reserves, the lid mounted with a flower bulb.

Base signed with makers mark (Kazuyuki).

DESCRIPTION

Antique late-19th Century Japanese Meiji period Shibayama Koro (Incense Burner). The silver body is applied of very fine enamel work, sides applied with two mythical, stylized dragon handles, adorned with a finely carved panels of various colours of mother of pearl, subject depicting fighting and courting cockerels. The shaped foot and top decorated with delicate shaded enamel within fine filigree reserves, the lid mounted with a flower bulb. The piece dates to the Meiji period (1890-1912), acid tested shows a 950+ silver standard, the base signed with makers mark (Kazuyuki)
