ANTIQUE 19thC GERMAN SOLID SILVER EMBOSSED FIGURAL TANKARD, HANAU c.1850
19th Century German (Hanau) silver impressively large lidded tankard, in the style of the early 16th Century pieces, beautifully chased and embossed with bacchanalia and agricultural scenes, embossed with cherubs, grotesque masks and surrounded by dense grapevine and floral decorations. Tankard applied with a very decorative scroll handle, the hinged lid is embossed with fruits and tiger masks, terminating with a cast cherub finial.
Hallmarked with a German 13 mark (800+ silver ), later French mark ET.

Hallmarked with a German 13 mark (800+ silver standard, mark used before 1886), later French mark ET, mark used on old foreign silver (tested 800+ grade silver), Maker's mark not visible.
