19th Century German (Hanau) silver large lidded tankard, in the style of the early 16th Century example, beautifully chased and embossed with a very detailed and crowded battle scenes, the base decorated with scrolling foliage and fruits in relief, large scroll handle terminating with a leaf-shaped thumb-piece, hinged domed cover in the same style applied with a large figure of a soldier with a spear as a finial.
Hallmarked with German makers mark WSH in a heart used by Weinranck and Schmidt, Hanau.
