DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century exceptional Victorian large Solid Silver presentation cup & cover, parcel gilt, of baluster form on spreading foot, the body applied with two panels beautifully pierced and acid-etched, one depicting a young Bacchus playing with Cherubs amongst grapevine branches, the other panel represents Minerva sitting with her owl. The lid is applied with large cast handles and surmounted with a large and extremely detailed finial modelled as an owl, in particular the owl of Athena / Minerva (please follow this link). The trophy is impressive and extremely crisp, it features a very unusual although excellent crfatmanship.

Each part is Hallmarked English Silver (925 Standard), London, year 1864 (i), Maker's mark AM (Alexander Macrae, great silversmith).
