Description

Antique 19th Century extremely rare and important Russian Empire Provincial Solid Silver mounted Coconut Kovsh, the coconut is mounted with a solid silver base beautifully engraved, standing on four realistically cast claw-shaped feet, solid silver rim and scroll handle also profusely engraved with a scroll floral decoration. The piece features an extraordinary quality of the workmanship, very detailed design. Russian silver mounted and hallmarked coconut cups, ladles or goblets are generally very rare and sought after (please follow this link), but a kovsh in this style is even harder to find - I can't find anything similar. But what make this piece all the more exceptional are the rare provincial Hallmarks: each part is Fully Hallmarked Russian silver 84, rare city mark for Zolotonosha (Postnikova-Losseva n.439 p.160), year 1866, Assayer's mark A.T (recorded in the Postnikova-Losseva 1983, n.440, p.160 as the only known assayer of this city, name unknown), no Maker's mark visible. The city mark of Zolotonosha, now Ukraine, is so rare that is impossible to find on line anything bearing the same marks. Stunning quality of the workmanship and great condition, a one off, real top collector piece.
