DESCRIPTION

Antique late-19th Century extremely rare and impressive Ottoman Empire solid silver twin-handled tray, richly gilded, of shaped oval form, applied beaded rim, cast handles decorated with scrolls and flowers.

The tray is beautifully decorated with engraved flowers, a pattern of fine wavy lines and punched spots (also known as "Aznavour" pattern, after the family of silversmiths who introduced this type of decoration in the 19th century) the centre engraved with an important crest depicting a crown surmounted by a moon crescent.

This is one of the finest pieces of Ottoman silver we ever had, engine-turned "Aznavour" pattern is generally the most sought after and valuable.

Each part is fully Hallmarked Ottoman Empire (modern Turkey), silver (900 Standard), with rare "Tughra" and "Sah" marks (please follow this link), very clear and crisp. The Tughra mark is the Sultan's signature, for Abdulhamid II (1876-1909).
