DESCRIPTION

Antique

19th Century rare pair of Indian hand-crafted Solid Silver Baskets, each of circular form, beautifully chased with panels alternating Hindu deities and flowers, each base is also chased depicting animals and figures included in a scrolling foliage.

The piece features a stunning quality and unusual details, such as anthropomorphic leaves and the swing-handles cast simulating intertwined rope-work.

Large and decorative pair, one of the finest examples we have ever seen, most probably from South India (the hindu god imagery is usually from Madras). Each base is Hallmarked French import silver (swan, 900+ standard). The pair of baskets probably date to the 1890's.
