DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century exceptionally rare Indian Colonial solid silver picture frame, easel backed frame with a lovely openwork pierced mount with the typical foliate design with coriander leaves and flowers, the top with a vacant circular cartouche.

This silver frame is very rare, bearing the marks of Oomersi Mawji, the most celebrated Indian silversmith of all time. Oomersi Mawji is mostly known for his silver tableware and tea-ware, and is very rare to find silver frames by him. The frame comes with a photo of a Maharaja dating to the 1923.

The back of the frame bears the marks "O.M" "BHUJ", for Oomersi Mawji, appointed Royal Silversmith for the Maharaja of Kutch and producing silverware for a wide elite of European and British clientele. The frame dates to the 1880-1900.
