DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century exceptional Indian Colonial solid silver lipped presentation tankard, of baluster form on spreading circular foot, very finely chased with flowers on matted ground. Scroll handle with a floral thumbpiece. The tankard is of very heavy gauge, it takes influence from English pieces made in the Georgian period by English silversmiths.

Presented to 'Captain John Herring from his friends Major J.C.B Parker its a small token of regard and esteem, for his cordial ready support and assistance ever afforded while associated together on on the general staff under Lt Gen Sir G Matindell H.G.B'

The base bearing the Hallmark "T&CO" for Twentyman & Co, one of the most important silversmiths active in Calcutta since the early 19th Century (1818-1829). This tankard is particularly early, as it probably dates to the 1820's.
