Anthony Nelme, the silversmith who made the kettle, "was one of the leading English-born goldsmiths and silversmiths during the Huguenot period. He was the son of John Nelme, a yeoman of Muchmerkle, Herefordshire, but rose in status as his prestigious clientele list grew. Amongst his most noted clients were Queen Anne and much of the leading members of aristocracy. Anthony Nelme serves as an example of a man who grew in status because of his trade and his skills as a silversmith lead him to become a member of the court assistants in 1703" (J.
