DESCRIPTION

Antique 18th Century Georgian exceptionally rare solid silver teapot on stand, both parts of oval form, the teapot and the stand are engraved with bright-cut garlands, ebonized handle and finial, the base bearing the initial "M".

Jonathan Bateman was the third son of the famous female silversmith Hester Bateman. The present mark, entered with his brother Peter, was registered at Goldsmiths' Hall on 7 December 1790. Jonathan died on April 19, 1791 (which means that he produced silver for only 6 months) and work bearing his mark is extremely rare and sought after by collectors.

Stand, base and lid are Hallmarked English Silver (925 Standard), London, year 1790 (p), Maker's mark PBIB (Peter & Jonathan Bateman, very rare and sought after makers).
