Description

Antique early-20th Century pair of Dutch imported Solid Silver five-light candelabra, exceptionally large and impressive, each of Neoclassical style with fluted urn-form nozzles and acanthus leaf-capped reeded candlearms, fluted tapering colum-stem raised on a laurel wreath embellished base, unmarked detachable nozzles.

Each piece is Hallmarked Continental silver (830 standard), and Dutch import silver (used on large items between 1814-1953, testing 833+ standard), year about 1900's, Retailer's mark "BEGEER UTRECHT" for Koninkijke Begeer, very important silver manufacturer and retailer.

The pair has an important provenence from the collection of Hermanus Peter Mutters V, owner and driving force behind the family fine furniture manufacturing firm "Royal H.P. Mutters & Son" in The Hague, which received high-profile commissions throughout its history including a number of Salons and the first-class cabins on the H.M.S. Titanic and the Royal cradle for Princess Juliana of the Netherlands in 1909.
