DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century Continental Solid Silver wall plaque / sideboard dish, of round form chased and embossed in relief with winged figures and floral garlands, the border is chased and engraved with medallions depicting the loves of Jupiter and putti, the central panel chased with Perseus saving Andromeda, after a painting by the great Venetian painter of the 16th Century Paolo Veronese (please follow this link).

The chasing is very fine, the eclectic Renaissance-inspired style very unusual and decorative, very close to the plaques by Leonard Morel-Ladeuil, a great French sculptor, ciseler and goldsmith also producing models for Elkington & Co. The silver is not signed, only marked "800" for Continental silver (800 standard, acid tested), it dates to 1880-1900.
