DESCRIPTION

Antique early-20th Century rare Chinese Export Solid Silver large three piece tea set, comprising of teapot, sugar bowl, and milk jug on the original silver mounted wooden tray, each body is embossed with a lovely projecting dragon on a matted ground, handles and spout modeled as bamboo branches.

The set is particularly large and fine, it comes with the original large silver mounted wooden gallery tray, with raised sides beautifully carved with a scrolling foliate and floral decoration, the silver handles also simulating bamboo branches, the centre is set with a silver plaque engraved with initials, the same initials are engraved on the other pieces.

Each piece is Hallmarked with Chinese silver character marks (acid tested they show a 900+ standard purity), silversmith and retailer's mark TUCKCHANG (for Tuck Chang & Company, active in Shanghai circa 1870-1920, one of the best known, often referred as the "Wang Hing" of Shanghai, for more information please see A. Von Ferscht, Chinese Export Silver 1785-1940, 4th edition 2015).
