DESCRIPTION

Antique mid 19th Century Chinese exceptional solid silver salver, of large size and gauge, the boarder chased with beautifully scenes in relief depicting birds amongst trees, the center engraved with six pannels decorated with different scenes of birds amongst floliage.

Hallmarked HC (Houcheong, active in Canton,1820-1890), Houcheong was a retail silversmith, predominantly catering for the English Georgian market, known for replicating or modifying English objects into Chinese style, he is undoubtedly considered one of the early Chinese retail silversmiths of the Chinese Export Silver period.
