DESCRIPTION

Antique early-18th Century extremely rare Chinese Kangxi period solid silver box, fan shaped, decorated in repousse' high relief, on very finely tooled matted and gilded ground, top finely cast in high-relief with two scholars situated in a stylised landscape with large floral sprigs and flying birds, surrounded by a key-fret border at the rim, the sides of the top and box decorated in low-relief with further scholars amongst a mountainous waterscape detailed with pavilions and pine trees. The box is of heavy gauge and very well crafted. Unmarked (tested 900+ standard), Kangxi silver would not technically be made for Chinese export, and hence why the silver of this period was often not signed.
