Antique early-20th Century Chinese export solid silver three piece tea set on tray, comprising of teapot, lidded sugar bowl and milk jug and tray, each tree-trunk shaped body applied with prunus flowers and applied with decoration in relief, spout, handles and finials modelled as tree branches, outstanding quality and very heavy gauge, inside richly gilt, the tray in unique complimentary style.

Hallmarked with Chinese Export marks (900+ silver standard), Maker Tuck Chang & Company (active 1870-1920). Probably one of the best known retail silversmiths of the latter half of the 19th century in Shanghai, often referred to as being the ‘Wang Hing’ of Shanghai. Like Wang Hing & Co of Canton and Hong Kong, Tuck Chang sold high quality jewellery, silver wares, jade and ivory. While having its own working relationships with Shanghai-based artisan silversmiths helped create a style other than that of Canton and Hong Kong.
